Alfred L. Aiello, Jr., 87, of Leechburg, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 in AHN- Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 31, 1934 in West Leechburg, he was a son of the late Alfred "Fred" Aiello & Amelia "Molly" (Goglio) Aiello.
Al was a 1952 graduate of Leechburg High School, and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Clarion University, and Master's Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He proudly served our country with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Al was a history and English teacher at Springdale High School, and coached football and baseball. His passion was mentoring students both in the classroom and on the field. Al retired in 1998 after 39 years, and continued his love for educating, teaching history to and mentoring his grandchildren. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Gilpin Township.
Al loved reading, especially non-fiction books related to history, and enjoyed classical music. He also liked working on crossword puzzles, and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially the Pirates. Al most loved being with his family, telling stories around the dining room table, and attending his grandchildren's activities.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, A. Arlene Aiello; sister-in-law, Marie Rakovan; and brother-in-law, Mario "Bud" Balbo.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Flo L. (Balbo) Aiello; sons, Scott (Chris) Aiello of Mansfield, OH, Evan (Rick Hawkinberry) Aiello of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Kelsey Leigh Aiello, Dr. Jake Aiello, Josh Aiello, Andres Aiello, Haydon Aiello; sister-in-law, Barbara Marshall; and nieces and nephews.
Interment in St. Catherine Cemetery, Gilpin Township.
