When Irene Mary (nee) Sawka Aune Griffin Lee was born on April 3, 1947, her father, Nicholas, was 41, and her mother, Agnes, was 26.
When Irene Mary (nee) Sawka Aune Griffin Lee was born on April 3, 1947, her father, Nicholas, was 41, and her mother, Agnes, was 26. She was born in a time that the land was hard to work, food and supplies were not easily afforded or found. She lived in Desolation Sound, British Colombia, a remote part of Canada, her father Nick, built a home and settled into a piece of land beside the ocean. It sounds beautiful but her family didn't have a lot and they suffered many hardships. She had 3 brothers, including William who died a few days after being born.
She was a beautiful young girl. She experienced a very challenging childhood. She had to live in several foster homes almost all of her childhood years from the age of 3 on.
When she ventured out on her own at a young age, she continued to have a lot of challenging family dynamics with her own children. When she was younger she wanted to become a social worker. I guess she had seen how hard things were for families and she wanted to help make a difference in the generations coming after her.
The family had two toy poodles at their home for many years when the kids were growing up. The dogs were named "Peaches and Cream." They also had parakeets. She didn't have pets for the rest as she moved around too much as she aged.
Her first marriage was to David Staunton Aune, they had two children. They separated. Later in life David died in 2019. Her second marriage was to Bill Griffin. They also separated. Bill never married again, as she had been the one and only love of his life. He died years later in 2021. Bill & Irene had a son together named. Her final marriage was to Harold Lee. They had no children together. Harold died in 2013.
Irene's brother loved her very much. He helped her through her life, and was always her cheerleader. His daughter, her niece spent summer vacations as a teenager with Irene and her family and Irene was like a second mother to her. She had fun with Irene's children and she always felt welcomed in their home. She was loved by Irene was made to be a part of the family. There are a lot of good memories from that time together.
She died in her home on June 10, 2015. It was disappointing to see her leave this earth so young. She is missed by her family. She wasn't buried anywhere and there is no gravestone. Her daughter had the ashes, not knowing what to do with them, she put them in the river the Frazer River, near Vancouver, BC where Irene lived last.
We are comforted by God's Word. In the Bible it reads in Philippians 3:20-21 "But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself."
