READING, Pa., March 28.--Jacob R. Ritter, 77 years old, a cabinetmaker, who made the coffin in which he will be buried, died at St. Joseph's Hospital here today of a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Ritter made the coffin six years ago. The material is Canadian oak. On the lid is a swinging mirror enabling a person to see the body without going near.
Several years ago it was placed on exhibition at the Reading Fair and won a prize. He intended to carve the figures of the twelve apostles upon the lid, but died before completing the task. After finishing his casket, he ordered his shroud. It is a white silk.
