Alex was a "Volga German". These were ethnic Germans who immigrated to Russia in the mid 18th century and then in the mid 19th century their descendants immigrated to the U.S. Alexander immigrated to Kansas with his family in 1876
He married Anna Margaret Heronema another Volga German immigrant 27 Nov 1893 in Munjor,Ellis County, Kansas. They were the parents of 15 children
