Died, at her home in this city, Saturday, Dec. 13, at 9:30 a.m., Mrs. Celia J. Mayhew, wife of William Mayhew, aged 32 years and 8 months. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from the family residence on South College street. The funeral was quite largely attended by the friends of the family and the remains were interred at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Mayhew came to Springfield with her parents in the year 1859, and since that time she has been a resident of this city. Here she attended school, and while in her girlhood united with the First Baptist church. She was ever an earnest Christian, and zealous in every good work.
On the 18th of January, 1876, she was united in marriage to William Mayhew, who is now left to mourn with three little ones (the youngest 15 months old) and five of his first wife's children, for whom she labored as faithfully as for her own. Mrs. Ingmire, the mother of the deceased, and two sisters, Mrs. George Stadden and Mrs. Bobbet, reside in this city; Mrs. Piercy in Dakota, and Mrs. Waggoner in Kansas. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of all in their affliction.
