COOPER ARTHUR J. A resident of Hayward for 54 years, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2001, age 78. Beloved husband for 59 years of Kathleen Cooper. Loving father of Mary Hughes of Marina; Ana Cooper of North Bend, WA; the late Arthur J. Cooper Jr., and the late Clifford Cooper. Father-in-law of Janice Cooper, Robert Hughes, and Bill Van Houten. Survived by one brother Bill Cooper of Hayward, two sisters Helen Ciancola of Florida, and Joan Rueda of Castro Valley. Devoted grandfather of Ronald Cooper, Michelle West, Danielle Newman and the late Michael Cooper. Great-grandfather of 7. Mr. Cooper was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII stationed in the South Pacific as an infantryman and radio operator. He grew up as an Army Officer's child traveling and living all over the world, mostly in New Jersey and the southern states. At one time living on Angel Island and traveling to school by boat. He also lived in the Philippines and later Hawaii, where he met his future wife in high school. They married at Fort Ord just before he shipped out in 1942. After his service in the army, he became an air traffic controller, then a surveyor and engineer for the City of Hayward for over 30 years, while running his own business with his son. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator. His passion was sailing, he was a member of the Encinal Yacht Club in Alameda, and a longtime member of All Saints Church parish. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at All Saints Catholic Church, corner of 'D' and Second Streets, Hayward on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward. Donations preferred to Alzheimer's Association. Machado's HILLSIDE CHAPEL (510) 537-6600.
