PAST COMMANDER of LEGION POST DIES ROCKLAND- Earl J. Alden, 58, a post office employee for 29 years and past commander of Winslow-Holbrook Merritt American Legion post, Rockland. He died Thursday morning at V.A. Hospital in Togus.
He was a veteran of WW1, serving as a gunners mate in U.S. Navy aboard aboard the USS Kearsage and USS Mississippi. He served as commander of local legion post in 1924.
He was also a member of Post Office Carriers Association and St. Peters Episcopal Church.
Remaing are his widow Lillian, his mother Annie Alden, and three sons: F. Sterling Alden, serving in U.S. Army in Korea, John H. and Paul F. Alden.
Funeral Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Davis Funeral Home, Rockland. The six active bearers will be members of Winslow-Holbrook Merritt American Legion post and four honorary bearers will be fellow employees of Rockland post office.
Burial in Achorn Cemetery.
