Mr. Pennington was born March 4, 1949, in Purdy, the son of Vernie and Carnie Pennington. He was head of the Barry County Search and Rescue for 15 years, was a reserve deputy for the Barry County Sheriff's Department, former fire chief for the Purdy Fire Department, and an employee of Schallert Seed in Purdy.
Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Hilburn and Robin King, both of Purdy; one sister, Mary Asbell of Jasper; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, at Bennett-Wormington Chapel in Monett with Rev. Arnold Ray Evans officiating. Burial will be in Purdy Cemetery under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice in Monett.
