After a long illness, Jan van den Bosch died peacefully at his home on the morning of July 15, 2022, surrounded by those that cared for him. Jan was 88 years old.

Jan was born in Enschede, The Netherlands, on June 25th, 1937 to the late
Geert van den Bosch and
Anntje Maartje Edens - van den Bosch

At the time Enschede was the epicenter of the Dutch textile industry, which led Jan to pursue a degree in Textile Engineering at the Technical University of Delft in The Netherlands. This, in turn, led to a long and successful career in the textile industry, holding positions in The Netherlands, Germany and for the last 30 years of his career in the United States.

As Vice President of Sales in the Textile Dyes sector, Jan would tell you that "there was not a blue jean in the country that was not colored by their indigo blue dye".

Jan was married for over 64 years to the love of his life, Catharine "Ine" Sterckel. They shared a passion for "having fun", dancing, food and travel. Many summers in the early years were spent camping in the north of Denmark or the west of France with four young children in tow. Almost without fail, every Tuesday, he would "surprise" Ine with a bouquet of flowers.

In August of 1972, working for BASF – Textile Division, Jan and Ine bravely packed up their four small children and moved from The Netherlands to Charlotte, North Carolina. Jan learned to understand the locals; understood that "Jan" was considered a female name – so "J.B." would work better and he quickly became a valued technical resource to the many textile customers that still existed in the Carolinas and beyond at the time.

Upon retirement in October 1996, Jan spent the following years in several volunteering roles. As a volunteer at Presbyterian Hospital Cardio Department, Jan guided and comforted families and friends of patients. In addition to Presbyterian Hospital, he also volunteered at the Charlotte Visitors and Information Center, where he loved to share all about the city that had embraced him and his family for all those years ago. His favorite vacation spot would become Hilton Head Island where he loved to relax under an umbrella with a nice cold beer.
