Philip Crose was born in Hampshire county, Virginia, 1757; served in the Revolutionary Was as a private in Captain Daniel Richardson's company for six months, again the following year, 1781, for four months. He enlisted from Hampshire county, was in the battle of Guilford Court House. After the war was over, he removed to Indiana, where he applied for and received a pension. His last pension payment was sent in Aug or Sept of 1839 to Indiana. The payment was returned to the Government. He was buried at the Miller Cemetery in Heyworth, McLean County, Illinois.
