NEWPORT - Floride (Hewitt) Taylor died here, Tuesday, September 27, 2005. She was the wife of Captain LeRoy Taylor, U.S. Navy (Retired) and the daughter of Admiral and Mrs. H. Kent Hewitt. Born in Annapolis, Maryland, she was educated at Vassar College and Pembroke College. From 1966 to 1981 she was head librarian at St. George's School. She served also on the Board of Directors of the Redwood Library. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames and served on the Whitehall Committee. She was a former member of the Vestry and the Altar Guild of Trinity Church.
She is survived by her husband; by her children Martha Taylor Schantz of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Kent Hewitt Taylor of Santa Fe, New Mexico; by her grandchildren Ridgely Schantz and Holly and Gabriel Taylor; and by her sister, Mary Kent Norton of Spokane, Washington.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 3, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Church, Newport, followed by her interment in Trinity Cemetery, East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
