Son of Judge Asa Owen Aldis and Mary Taylor. Husband of Mary Reynolds. He attended Harvard University. Rommy Lopat of Lake Forest, IL, contributed this quote regarding Arthur Taylor Aldis taken from a book entitled "The Chronicles of Catherine Eddy Beveridge" by Albert Beveridge, III: "Arthur Taylor Aldis (1861-1933) was a dapper real estate developer, clubman, and arts patron. He was involved in the development of some of Chicago's earliest skyscrapers. He was one of the guiding spirits of Lake Forest, Illinois, which was just emerging as a leading haunt of the wealthy. He was instrumental in the design of Lake Forest's town center, and was active in its cultural life. He was not only involved with the hunt, but soon established an acclaimed playhouse, known as the Little Theater, with his wife Mary Reynold on their Lake Forest estate. He was known for his generosity toward artists, many of who he aided personally. The Aldis's son, Owen, became a leading civil rights activist." The 1912 History of Lake County, IL, states "He came to Chicago in 1888 and to Lake Forest in 1901. He was married to Mary Reynolds in 1892. He is associated with his brother, Owen Aldis, in the real estate business. Mr. Aldis, in association with such men as Arthur Bissell, F. Herman Gade, and Hobart C. Chatfield-Taylor, has been indefatigable in promoting...the growth of better standards in music and the drama. He was one of the forlorn hope whose advanced standard, several years ago, was the 'The New Theater'." (Page 491)
