Jose passed away at Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln. He was the son of Jose Arismendi and Marilyn (Simons) Casteneda. He graduated from Flint Hills Technical College with a degree in mechanics and served in the US Army in Vietnam. He married Darlene Brooks on December 22, 1967, in Hallbrook, Arizona. Survivors include his wife, his children. Joe Casteneda, Kevin Casteneda, Dilinom Casteneda, Jermain Casteneda, and Rose Castenedo, 4 sisters, and 14 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Roberts-Blue-Barnell Funeral Home in Emporia. Burial services were conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Ball-McColm Post #5 at Maplewood Cemetery.
