Ludwig "Luggi" Waldleitner began his movie work in the 1930s as a camera assistent of Guzzi Lantschner and production manager for Leni Riefenstahl's "Olympia". Between 1942 and 1945 he was production Manager for the film company "Berlin Film". With his wife Ilse Kubaschewski first he founded the "Kurfilmtheater" in Oberstdorf and later the famous german film company "Gloria Filmverleih". In the year 1951 Luggi founded his own film company "Roxy-Film GmbH & Co. KG" and had his first success with the movie "Bis wir uns wiedersehen" (1951 - Maria Schell & O.W. Fischer). In the 1970s and 1980s he realized the screen adaptions of the novels of J.M. Simmel and later the movie of R.W. Fassbinder "Lili Marleen". After his death the "Luggi-Waldleitner-Preis" was founded.
He is buried on the cemetery near the Castle of Nymphenburg.
