Virginia L. Jackson, 73, of Ironton, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Ison, Ky., native was born May 9, 1934, the daughter of the late William F. and Maggie Blair Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Thomas Jenkins, who died in 1964 and Silas R. Jackson, who died in 1989.

She was a graduate of a Whitesburg, Ky., high school and was a former newspaper carrier for The Ironton Tribune, retiring in 1999. She attended Lorain Street Gospel Mission Church. She had lived in this area since 1953.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death b y a son, Ronald Jenkins; a daughter, Wanda Jean Jenkins; a stepson, Michael Jackson; four brothers, Sam Thompson, Junior Thompson, James Thompson and Tom Thompson and three sisters, Martha Cummins, Armini Adams and Sara J. Adams.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carl Jenkins and Joshua and Katrenia Jackson, all of Ironton; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Brian Griffin of South Point, Vickie Jenkins of Ironton, Billie Leyva of Gallatin, Tenn., and Bobbie and Ray Potter of Willow Wood; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, William and Beverly Jackson of Flatwoods, Ky.; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Peggy and Ray Krudelbach of Pine Island, Fla., and Claudella Brooks of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Don Thompson of Paulding, and Charles P. Thompson of Ironton; four sisters, Maggie Ruth Blair of Cecil, Maude Jenkins, Frances Abrams and Susan May, all of Ironton; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Bros. Jack Pemberton and Terry Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
