Birth date suggested on 18 Jul 2021 by Henry Bush; FIND A GRAVE ID 50929541∼Robert Mathis Cleveland sent his sons William and Jeremiah (who were 5 and 3 at the time of their mother's death) back to Greenville, SC to live with their grandparents Cap. Jeremiah and Sarah (Sally) Vannoy Cleveland. After their grandfather's death in 1845, they went to live with their aunt and uncle William and Caroline (Cleveland) Choice in Choice Hills (Greenville County, S.C. who raised and schooled them.

A year after his wife's death he married Frances (Fanny) Leonard Wight. In 1841, they bought an estate named "Hickory Knob" on Chestnut Hill in Lawrenceville, GA which he sold in 1870. He ran a tannery along with other business interests. A man of great wealth, he was one of the first stockholders in the Georgia Railroad Bank & Trust Company in Augusta GA. In 1866, he moved to Wartrace TN to be near his brother Jeremiah Cleveland, Jr. He died in TN but was buried in Greenville.
