"Mr. Johnson was born in Scott county, Virginia, July 18, 1843 (sic). He enlisted in Company G, Third Regiment, North Carolina Mounted Infantry, on October 1, 1864, and received his discharge August 8, 1865. He was married to Martha J. Miller, early in 1886. To this union were born eight sons and two daughters, seven of whom survive. His wife died November 5, 1900. In April, 1903, he was again married, to Julia Sellers, who died April 6, 1915.
"In the death of Mr. Johnson, Douglas county lost one of its pioneer citizens, for he had been a resident of the county since November, 1878. Mr. Johnson had been a devoted Christian for more than 50 years and was affiliated with the General Baptist church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, which organization honored his memory in the final services at the grave in Springcreek cemetery, last Tuesday."
