Employed in the Wabash Railroad shops for many years. Lived in Springfield for 25 years. Married Miss Amelia Hein in Seymour, Conn., in 1856. Preceded in death by three children. Survived by wife and nine children.
In the troublesome times of 1848 he was a soldier in Germany, being then but 18 years of age. When the war of the rebellion broke out he enlisted at Lincoln's first call, and he served until the end of the war. His comrades of the 14th Illinois will vouch for his faithful discharge of his duty as a soldier of his adopted country. At the close of the war he returned to this city, where he has since resided, being an employe in the Wabash shops. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 3-4-1886
