Son of Frank and Elizabeth Avery. He graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a marketing manager for many years at Airwick. He retired from corporate management positions at age 49 to purchase a property management company at Tristams Landing on Nantucket, which he ran with his ex-wife, Pat, for several years. He moved to Mashpee in 2000, was a parishioner at Waquoit Congregational Church and volunteered at Mashpee Senior Center. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth Howland Haughn*; and sister, Frances Speers. Surviving are his two daughters, Sarah Avery of Montclair, NJ, Janis Avery and spouse, Mary of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren, Felicia, Emerson, Matthew, Amber, Darrel, Adam, and Kasie; and three great grandchildren.
