Julian C. Markel, widow of George W. Markel, was born October 18, 1866, and died in the County Home, York, Pa., November 23, 1951, aged 85 years, 1 month, and 5 days. Mrs. Markel's death was hastened by an accident which befell her in her home in August 1949. She was a long and patient sufferer, and death came as a welcome relief.
Mrs. Markel was a kind and devoted friend and neighbor. In her home she was hospitable and cheerful. She was a faithful wife and mother, and since 1935, was mother to her grandchildren, when their mother had died. Her pastor and his wife had no better friend in the whole Charge. Many hours were pleasantly spent in her home.
She became a member of Zion (Shaffer's) Reformed Church, April 17, 1880, under the pastorate of the Rev. Jacob D. Zehring. The same minister had baptized her November 18, 1866.
There remain to mourn her home-going, her son, Jacob H. Markel, three sisters, five grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, November 26, 1951, from the Goodling Funeral Home, Seven Valleys, Pa. Her pastor spoke on the text: Prov. 31:30, "A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." Interment was made in Shaffer's Church Cemetery.
