Charles Lamar Adams was born on September 5, 1925, to Charley Clayton Adams and Floy Brookins Adams in Jackson County Florida. He was the fifth of seven children born to them. He has one living sibling, Dwight Adams.

Charles graduated from Graceville High School in 1942. He attended Auburn University for a couple of weeks before turning eighteen on September 5, 1943. He then withdrew from Auburn to enlist in the Navy. He spent three years in the service during World War II.

After the war, he met and married Nelma Grace Adams from Hartford, Alabama. They had three daughters: Paula Adams Storey (Ron), Deborah Adams Hammond (Harry), and Cynthia Adams Mobley (Tom). He is survived by his three daughters, his eight grandchildren: Melissa Storey Gowan, Matt Storey (Katie), Jonathan Hammond (Jennifer), Jessica Hammond Sovel (James), Jameson Hammond, Patrick Mobley (Angie), Sarah Grace Mobley, and Chance Matthews and twelve great grandchildren: Reese and Truitt Gowan, Lucas and Leila Speigner, Elias Storey, Harper Lee, Stella Grace, and Asher Hammond, Gracelyn and Camden Sovel, Madi and Jude Quilliams.

Charles began his educational journey using the GI Bill. He received his AA degree from Chipola Jr. College, his Bachelor's degree from Troy University, and his Master's and Specialist degree from George Peabody College, which is now a part of Vanderbilt University.

After teaching biology, chemistry, and physics in Hartford, AL and Chipley, FL he became principal of Chipley High School, a professor at Chipola Jr. College, and Superintendent of Education in Washington County, Florida. He retired from the Florida school system but not from education. Charles went on to become headmaster of Abbeville Christian Academy and Warrior Academy and then taught at Faulkner Sate Jr. College well into his seventies. He also homeschooled his youngest grandchild in chemistry. In all, his educational career spanned 54 years.

The funeral will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 3:00P.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Chipley. Visitation will be in the sanctuary at 2:00P.M. Officiating will be Pastor David Temples. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley, FL. The pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Whitehall Assisted Living, in Dothan, AL for the loving care he was given for almost four years. He always said that the staff and the residents were like family to him.
