Mary E. Mathewson, 78, 1212 Hill Ave., died Monday at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home following a long illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Mason, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Mathewson, the former Mary Evelyn Kitchen, was born Jan. 19, 1909, in Galva and moved with her parents to Sioux City in 1920. She married Myron E. Mathewson on June 14, 1941, at Fairmont, Minn. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Abu-Bekr Shrine Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gerald and Dennis, both of Sioux City; two daughters, Judith Severson of Overland Park, Kan., and Darla Doescher of Medford, N. J.; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. A memorial has been established in her name with the Abu-Bekr Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund.
