George was a native of Rochester, NY and lived most of his life in Carencro. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. He graduated from USL with a passion for numbers and taxes, and worked for the Lafayette Consolidated Government until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Crossroads Church in Lafayette.
George was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox and UL, where he volunteered his time for their sports programs. He also enjoyed volunteering alongside his wife for ARC of Lafayette. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, baseball, volleyball and tubing. He was incredibly proud of his 1st hole in one, which he accomplished on the 13th hole at Oakbourne Country Club. George was a fun, loving man, who was happiest when, surrounded by his loved ones, though his competitive, perfectionist nature did not lend well to him being a gracious loser.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Katie Melancon Terry of Carencro; one son, Derek Terry and wife, Lana, of Duson; one daughter, Laina Bourque and husband, Allen, of Mire; three grandchildren, Cooper Bourque, Jourdan Matte and husband, Logan, and Mia Terry; one great grandchild, Dax Matte; two sisters, Jacqueline Farmer Bergeron and spouse, Bob, of Houston and Dena Gautreaux, and spouse, Joe, of Milton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Terry and the former Eula Lee Savoy.
