She was born in Springfield and she and her husband, Erich, and son, Jim, moved to Sarasota from Hoffman Estates.
She was a graduate of Blackburn College and Brown's Business College. Employment included substitute teaching in Hoffman Estates and selling real estate in Sarasota. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Miriam Circle. She volunteered at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for 10 years. She also was a member of Ladies of the Shrine, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3233 and the Women's Resource Center.
She and her husband traveled around the world. They also traveled to all of the national parks in the U.S. in their RV. She loved to play bridge and other games. She was a resident of Glen Oaks and recently moved to Merrill Gardens, an assisted living facility.
Eleanor was a wonderful friend to many and a generous donor to many charitable causes. She was a caring, supportive and loving mother to Sharon Farley of Sarasota, Carol of Urbana, Georgiana of Champaign, Robert of Placentia, Calif., Alan of East Dundee, James of Sarasota and her eldest son, Eric, who preceded her in death. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She remained close to her sister-in-law and her brother's family after he preceded her in death.
A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in the chapel of First United Methodist Church, 104 S. Pineapple Ave., in Sarasota. If you are able to attend, please wear something blue, her favorite color.
Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of your choice.
