Tommy died at Taylor Hospice House. He is the son of Thomas & Emma Mae(Grett)Smith. He married Viola Dittmer in Boone,Iowa August 5 1944. Tommy served in the US Army, in the pacific, during World War II. He was a member of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church, The Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul, American Legion Post 42, and Veterans of foreign wars.
Tommy worked for John Deere 35 and a half years before retiring in 1983. He enjoyed working in his garden, and was particulartly fond of his raspberry patch. He enjoyed helping people and doing volunteer work.
He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Viola, his son Clayton of Ankeny, two grandchildren, John and Jessie Bruce, two great grandchildren, Troy and Haylie, a sister Yvonne Grimm, and a sister in law Dorthe Smith, and numerous nieces & nephews.
