IOLA ARNDT OBITUARY
On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the age of 90, while finishing her days at Lisaard House, Gwen left the confines of her tired body, and peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Saviour. From 1956 until his death in 2001, Gwen was the treasured wife of Walter. She was the loving and patient mother of Tom and his wife Sheila of Waterloo, Dan and his wife Jen of Cambridge and Doug Arndt of Kitchener. Jordan (Rachel), Dylan (Lindsay), Brennon, Aaron, Ryan, Andrew (Paola) and Sarah all called her Grandma and knew the full depth of her kindness, generosity and prayers. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, especially those who had the privilege of growing up near and around the solid bungalow house she and Walter built on Chicopee area's high hills and lived in for almost 60 years. This sweet home on almost an acre in the city was the epicentre of Gwen's world. It was there she and Walter created a haven in which to raise their sons. It was there that Walter planted his garden each Spring and whose bounty Gwen would spend countless Summer hours preserving and canning from which to enjoy throughout the Fall and Winter. Typically, even after Walter's passing, you would come to visit only to find her working tirelessly outside sweeping the driveway, attending to her marigolds and geraniums or pulling up every dandelion on the immaculate lawn! She maintained the interior of the home with equal vigour, with nary an item out of place. Her work ethic was tireless even until her last days. She embodied the description of a godly woman found in Proverbs 31. Prior to becoming the world's greatest homemaker, Gwen had a career as an educator. After high school, she entered Stratford's Normal School from 1950-1951 to receive her teaching qualifications. It was here she shared a dorm room with a couple of other aspiring students, who would become lifelong friends. After her graduation, Gwen was hired by the Kitchener Public School Board and her early positions were at Margaret Avenue and Courtland Public Schools. Gwen was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Minnie Mader and her brother Arnott Mader (2022). Our family is incredibly thankful for the support and care Gwen received from Nurse Kate from Carepartners, Dr Tan from Hospice of Waterloo Region and the compassionate staff at Lisaard House in Cambridge. Gwen's family will receive relatives and friends from 12 to 12:45 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, with a funeral service in the chapel at 1 p.m. Pastor Bob Parks officiating. Reception to follow. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. For those unable to attend, Gwen's service may be viewed via livestream at https://www.henrywalser.com/live-streaming. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Lisaard Hospice or Ray of Hope would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
