She was the second wife of Joseph Henry Land. They married on 28 Jan 1892. A little over 9 months later, their son George Shackelford Land was born on 11 Oct 1892. She died 6 days later (a result of childbirth?), and George died 9 months later according to the bible records in my possession.
This is her obituary from a newspaper clipping that I found amongst stuff that my in-laws saved. Source is unknown:
"Departed this life, at her home near Irisburg, Henry county, Na. [sic Va.], October 17, 1892, Mrs. Sallie Shackleford [sic] Land, daughter of the late William and Sophia Shackleford [sic] and beloved wife of Joseph H. Land.
Again our hearts are stricken for we are called to mourn a woman of rare qualifications. A family truly bereaved, a whole community sorrowing for its true and faithful friend attest how wide is the place made vacant and how great the loss when her earthly mission ceased. And yet these sad hearts are comforted as well as chastened as memory recalls the abundant proof which her life furnished that she has entered into rest.
Sustained by this hope, should we, could we wish her "Back to earth and sin and sorrow?"
Although somewhat retiring in manner and always distrustful of self, yet in her, all found sympathy and kindly service and the sick "An angel of mercy." Into the sacred circle of her home this writer intruded only to witness that all "Arise up and calleth her blessed; and her husband also praiseth her."
Of her it may be said with more than ordinary propriety, that "None knew her but to love her, None named her but to praise.["]
During the whole life acquaintance of twenty-five years, the writer never heard one word to her disparagement.
From her extreme carefulness to do right and probably distrust of acceptance, she never connected herself with any branch of Christian church but there was a whole volume in her life. And, after all, is it not the life which speaks loudest? Words and professions are often empty sounds. In conclusion, we commit the bereaved ones – the sorrowing husband and family, the helpless babe – all to the tender mercies of our Sovereign Lord "Who doeth all things well, and may our hearts respond "All is well."
SYMPATHY."
