Born July 7, 1956 in Catawba County, he was the son of Betty Hovis Abernathy and the late Lewis Abernathy.
He started work at the age of 15, helping his father as an upholsterer at the Manor House. He then went on to work at Vermont America. He took pride in his job as a machine fixer there for about 20 years, until he decided to go into the cafe business with Boyce and Susan. He later decided to go back to his roots and began working as an upholsterer at Temple Furniture in Maiden. He worked there for 15 years, and had just retired as their Trimming Department Coordinator.
On his off time, he could typically be found doing one of few things. Spending time with family and friends, riding horses or shooting pool. One thing was for sure, no matter what he was doing, he would always have a fun story to share.
Left to cherish his memory:
Mother: Betty Abernathy of Maiden
Sister: Doris Lemmond and husband, Ray, Jr. of Maiden
2 Nephews: Raymond Lemmond III of Newton; Jason Lemmond and wife, Jennifer of Maiden
2 Nieces: Glenda Karlowitsch and husband, Alfred of Maiden; Abigail Queen and husband, Mike of Maiden
3 Great-Nieces: Harlee Lemmond; Mackenzie Karlowitsch; Sierra Bliss
3 Great-Nephews: Waylon Queen; Robert Pinson; Dallas Pinson
The funeral service will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden with Pastor Ed Yount officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
