Thelma Ruth Edwards passed away August 6, 2022, in Cedar Park, Texas, at the age of 93. She was born July 10, 1929, in Celeste, Texas, to the late Samuel Monroe Compton and Frances Jewel Comer Compton. She grew up in Celeste and was baptized at the Celeste First Baptist Church at an early age.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings, Theda Lacy, Helen McGuffey, M.C. Buster Compton, James Compton, and Mike Compton. She is survived by her brother, Billy M. "Buddy" Compton and his wife Novella, and her sister Peggy McCarley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her daughters, Carolyn Cayson and her husband Burt, and Pamela Matau and her husband Alex. Additional survivors include her four grandchildren, Joshua Cayson, Andrew Cayson and his wife Brittany, Lindsey Buerger and her husband Nick, and Kari Ward and her husband Tyler Yoos; her six great grandchildren, James Cayson, Tiffany Dyre, Elijah Buerger, Emmeri Buerger, Reagan Dawson and Cameryn Yoos.

Thelma graduated from Celeste High School in 1948 where she played on the girls All Star basketball team. On January 6, 1951, she married the love of her life, Avron (A.J.) Edwards and they were married for 65 years before he preceded her in death. She led an interesting life with A.J., supporting him in his career first in the U.S. Army and then eventually as an engineer with IBM working on the space program at Cape Canaveral, Florida. She was able to witness numerous historic space launches during the 1960's and 1970's at the height of the space program when they lived in Merritt Island, Florida. They were transferred to Manassas, Virginia in 1972, at which time she became employed with IBM. She retired from IBM in 1988 in Austin, Texas, as an Engineering Records Administrator. She and A.J. enjoyed many hours of square dancing, gardening, traveling, camping, and spending lots of time with family.

Thelma was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a homemaker while her daughters were young and encouraged and participated in all of their school and extracurricular activities. She enjoyed sewing their clothes, making Halloween costumes and doll clothes for them, and was active with them in Girl Scouts. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always made her light up with a smile. Some of the best times and their fondest memories include many fun times spent at the lake house on Lake Buchanan and a special trip when Thelma and A.J. took all their grandchildren to explore the Grand Canyon. She loved them all dearly and always wanted the best for them.
