Born in Wilkes-Barre, Sept. 2, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Helen Compton. Marie was a 1962 graduate of Coughlin High School and was most recently employed at the Salvation Army as a truck dispatcher before retiring.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2018 by Chester, her husband of 55 years; her beloved Chihuahua, Cocoa; and her granddog, Faith.
The family would like to thank AseraCare of McKenzie for their hospice services and Dr. Chura and Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia whose expertise gave her four more years to enjoy with her daughter.
During those last four years, she went on many adventures with her daughter. She got to visit the Grand Ole Opry, Graceland, visited wineries and went geocaching with her daughter all over creation, with varying levels of enthusiasm. She enjoyed watching the Phillies, Yankees and Eagles, even though they were not always as good as hoped.
Surviving is her daughter, Dr. Kathleen Baczynski, Gleason, Tenn.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph A. Kearney. Entombment will be in the Mary Mother of God mausoleum at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday.
