She was the sixth of nine children. Betty was raised and educated in the farming community of Fleming, Colorado, graduating from Fleming High School in 1947. She attended Colorado Teachers College, studying music.

She met John E. Flynn, Jr. while both worked at Fleming High School. They married in 1949, enjoying a love story and partnership lasting over 67 years that was only interrupted by his passing in 2016. Betty and John had six children.

Betty was a wife, mother, and accomplished homemaker. What she valued most, and what was both her gift and true calling, was nurturing her numerous children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to become productive, responsible, and happy adults. Later in life, she provided administrative support for a local small business and volunteered at Lutheran Hospital. She was also a gifted musician who loved to play the piano and brought others joy through her playing and singing.

She is survived by her six children, two sisters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
