Sidney was the son of Travis and Maude Parnell of Punta Gorda. He was married to his highschool sweetheart, Alla May Durrance, for 58 years. The loving father of four daughters; Sandra, Sylvia, Sydney, and Alla. He was a Florida Gator, having attended on a full football scholarship, he received his degree in Forestry through the UF College of Agriculture.
Upon graduation, he entered the military. He proudly served, as a Lieutenant, in the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Afther the war he came home and became the Agriculture County Agent in Ocala, FL. He later started Producer's Fertilizer Co. on Hanson Avenue in 1964 which served Fort Myers and surrounding counties until he sold the business in 1987.
He served as a member of the Lee County School Board as well as the Lee County Housing Authority in the 1960's and 1970's. He was one of the founders of South Florida Bank. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Rotary Club, the Royal Palm Yacht Club and the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alla May; his daughter, Sylvia Parnell Hudson; and his sister, Fannie Lou Smith.
