David was born in Miami, Florida on October 17, 1942. He graduated from North Miami High School in 1960 and Florida State University in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in foreign affairs.

Following college, he was a commissioned officer in the Navy for eight years, including five years of active duty in Vietnam on board the USS Kearsarge. Upon leaving the Navy, he flew for Eastern Airlines for 29 years. After flying for several other airlines, he continued at Delta Airlines as a flight and simulator instructor.

He then began working for the Federal Aviation Administration and retired after 13 years of service as a flight safety inspector for the National Simulator Program. He was loved and respected by his students and co-workers alike.

He is predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Louise Hamon; and his sister, Bonnie (Paula) Hamon.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon; his children, Cindy (Donnie) Wade of Peachtree City, Georgia and Chris (Jennifer) Hamon of Marietta, Georgia; his two granddaughters, Georgia and Scarlett Wade; his siblings, Richard (Joy) Hamon of Williamsburg, Virginia and Robert (Linda) Hamon of Orange City, Florida; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

David will be interred at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, Georgia at 3:00pm, on Saturday, August 27, 2022 with military honors. His life will be celebrated with family and friends at a later date.
