Aron Hughes Abbey was born on December 31, 1950, in Livingston, Texas to Bruce and Irene Abbey. Aron was a member of the Beaver Clan of Coushatta Tribe and was later adopted by Laverne Brady into the Chicken Clan.

Aron grew up in Elton, Louisiana, and moved to Livingston Texas. While growing up, Aron was very close to his Paternal Grandmother, Emily Abbey. They had a strong bond. His Apo (Grandma) taught Aron to tan hides as well as a lot of the Coushatta traditions. While growing up in Livingston, Texas, Aron and his brothers, Ronnie and Lloyd always had ways of surviving and providing for their families; for example, they used to sell squirrels for fireworks. Upon graduation, Aron was employed by Texas Instruments in Dallas. Texas.

On April 1, 1971, Aron was drafted into the United States Army. He completed his Basic Training at Fort Polk, Louisiana in August/September. He then completed AIT Advanced Infantry Training along with 2 weeks of Leadership. After Infantry Training MOS, he made Fire squad team leader of the 11th Charlie Indirect. After AIT, Aron had the opportunity for Special Duty at Fort Myers, Virginia. He had signed up for this duty and had no idea what it was. His dad told him to try his best. There were two spots open for this special duty, which was being the 3rd Infantry Honor Guard and he was selected for this. He was also a member of the Tomb of the unknown Soldiers. Along with his accomplishments, he had the honor of being on Presidential Duties; where he marched for President Richard Nixon's Inauguration. Aron held Top Security Clearance which allowed him to be a Presidential Guard at the White House. On March 28, 1973, Aron was Honorably Discharged as a Specialist from the United States Army. After being discharged from the Army, Aron attended the Haskell Indian Nations University. While attending the University he met the love of his life, Kay Good Bird on September 1973. And 9 months later a Haskell Rascal was born, Aron B. Abbey (Cussy). Aron and Kay moved to Livingston, Texas where they had 2 more children, Karrie (Girl) and Erik (Heitzy). During this time, Aron worked with his dad at Camden Saw Mill. In August/September of 1980, Kay and the kids moved to Gladstone, ND while Aron was still working at Camden. He later relocated to Gladstone to rejoin his family and then their last child, Donovan (Dobby) was born at Watford City, ND. Aron worked for Kolling & Kolling in Dickinson, ND. He worked here for many years until he was laid off. He then obtained employment at TMI and moved the family to Dickinson. The family made many enjoyable and happy years growing up in Dickinson. In the summers, Aron enjoyed fishing, going to Powwows, and enjoying watching his kids dance. He loved it when all 6 of us were together.

In 2012, Aron found out he had Cancer. He courageously battled for 10 years and he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Aron was a very compassionate, caring, loving man. Even after all his pain and suffering, he was always concerned about his kids and grandkids. He always made sure they were always taken care of. They each had a special place in his heart. Aron's grandchildren were his reason for being a true warrior till the end. He was unable to go to powwows so he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren dance on live feeds on social media. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and NDSU Bison Fan. On weekends he enjoyed listening to KBON Cajun music and having his donuts and coffee.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Aron was welcomed home to the next camp by his Parents, Bruce and Irene Abbey; Grandparents, Eddie and Phoebe Celestine, Apo (Grandma), Emily Abbey; Brothers, Harold Evans, Ronnie Abbey and Lloyd Abbey; Uncle, Tom John; Brother-in-law, Darrell Battise; and many Aunts and Uncles.
