PICKENS, SC - Clarence Furman Nix, 51, died Tuesday at 3:15 a.m. at Easley Baptist Hospital, after an illness of two days.

Mr. Nix was born and reared in Pickens County, a son of Mrs. Lee Turner Nix, and the late Henry Nix. He was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church. He formerly was employed at Gaylord Container Corporation in Greenville. He was a farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hattie Durham Nix of Route 2, Liberty; his mother; two daughters, Ethel and Evelyn Nix of the home; seven sons, Charles, Robert, Willie, J. C. and Larry Nix, all of Pickens, Ralph and Harold Nix of Liberty; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Durham and Mrs. Bertha Robertson, both of Pickens, and Mrs. Geneva Masters of Liberty; two brothers, James Nix of Anderson and Guy Nix of Detroit, Michigan; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at Roanoke Baptist Church Thursday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Dewey Lewis, the Rev. Johnnie Powell, the Rev. Jim Lewis and the Rev. Dave Wilson. Burial will be in Secona Baptist Church Cemetery, Pickens.

Pallbearers will be Marlow Durham, Leon Durham, Gary Nix, William Durham, Garland Durham and Rufus Durham.

Honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class of Roanoke Baptist Church, Tom Bowen, Ed Allgood, Willie Allgood, L. F. Moon and Jeff Moon.

The body is at the home. Clayton-Dillard Funeral Home is in charge.
