Tony R. "Bob" Barrett, 82, of Frackville and formerly of Shamokin, left us peacefully Friday, Aug. 26, 2022.

He was born Aug. 28, 1939, in Kenhorst, a son of the late William C. Barrett Sr. and Laura (Webber) Barrett.

On April 19, 1969, Bob and the former Mary Ann Anderson were married by Monsignor Charles J. Petrasek in St. Mary's Church, Shamokin.

"TonyBob," which he was affectionately known, began his 52-year banking career in May 1957, after graduating from Shamokin High School the same year. He started working with the National Dime Bank in Shamokin and served in various capacities with the bank until April 1962.

He served in the Army Security Agency in Germany from 1962 to 1965. Upon being discharged from the Army in March 1965, he returned to work as a teller at the National Dime Bank.

In March 1968, the National Dime Bank merged with Pennsylvania National Bank, where Bob served as a loan teller in the Shamokin office. In January 1969, he was appointed to the audit staff of Pennsylvania National Bank and moved to its Pottsville office. In December 1970, he was promoted to auditor, a position he held until July 1974, when he was appointed assistant vice president and auditor.

Bob completed several American Institute of Banking courses and graduated from the School of Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin, in 1973.

Later in his banking career, Bob was responsible for overseeing the Pennsylvania National Bank Operations Center in Saint Clair. He then held the position of assistant vice president and telecommunications analyst in central technology, before retiring from the banking business. Upon retirement, he served as a contractor for the bank.

Bob was a quiet soul who didn't like crowds but loved his family immensely, especially his five grandchildren.

In his earlier years, Bob was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman. He was a diehard football fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions and enjoyed four-wheeling. Bob also was a computer wizard and always enjoyed working on a different project in his Frackville home. His favorite pastime was being an amateur radio operator. He held an extra class license in amateur radio and served as a Ham radio operator since 1977. His call sign was "N3TB" and his favorite day was "Field Day." With his passing, we now have another "silent key." He also enjoyed vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with his brothers and sisters, and their families.

Bob was a member of Mother Cabrini Church in Shamokin. He also was a member of Friendship Fire Company in Butler Twp., Frackville American Legion and Schuylkill Amateur Radio Association (SARA). He also held the title of minority inspector at the polling station in the Englewood District of Butler Twp. for many years.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Barrett, who died while serving in the Navy, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael "Mickey" and Mary Anderson.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; two sons, Stephen R., of Frackville, and Matthew C. and his wife, Angela, also of Frackville; a daughter, Marissa Barrett and her husband, Eric Harvilicz, of Harrisburg; four handsome grandsons, Max Christopher Barrett, Barrett Samuel Harvilicz, Anderson Christopher Harvilicz and Cassius Robert Harvilicz; and one beautiful granddaughter, Lucy Maria Barrett.

Bob also is survived by four brothers, William C. Barrett Jr. and his wife, Pat, Richard E. Barrett and his wife, Susan, Michael J. Barrett and his wife, Bess, and James W. Barrett; two sisters, Ann (Barrett) Frasch and her husband, Ray, and Trish (Barrett) Clossen and her husband, Curt; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Sudhir Khanna for his excellent care of Bob.

A viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home, 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin.
