Alfred W. Bailey of North Brunswick passed away Sunday May 1, 2022 at Morristown Medical. He was 87.

Born in Sayreville, NJ he lived in Milltown, Little Egg Harbor then North Brunswick before entering the New Jersey State Fireman's Home in Boonton NJ.

He attended Sayreville High School where he played Football. He Joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served as a Machinist Mate on the USS Hunt DD-674 until 1957. Al married his wife Alice and moved to Milltown.

He worked as a boiler man for the Personal Products company then E.R. Squibb in New Brunswick before retiring in 2000.

Al joined the Milltown Fire Dept. in 1966 and was a member of the Milltown Exempt Association. Al held many ranks in the Dept. Foreman, Engineer, and President of the Relief Association. Al served as Chief of Department 1983-84 and 1991-92. He also served as the Middlesex County Manager to the State Fireman's home and as Middlesex County Executive Committeeman to the New Jersey State Fireman's Association before retiring from service in 2006.

He enjoyed watching the NY Giants and was a fan of the Old Brooklyn Dodgers. He was an avid NASCAR fan and even built and raced his own Car from 1969 to 1972 until he crashed and ended his hobby.

Al was instrumental in organizing a reunion committee for his Navy ship the USS Hunt and enjoyed many years of celebrating all the crews of his ship.

He loved traveling to Wildwood and especially enjoyed sailing on the Cape May Ferry, which reminded him of his Navy Days.

Al will be remembered for his dedication to his Country and his Community, his sense of humor and his style.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Carrie (Haberman) Bailey, his brother James Bailey, sister Paula Bailey, his wife Alice Bailey (Tilquist), granddaughter Danielle Overland and his 2nd wife Ann Powers Bailey.

Surviving are his daughters Patricia Bailey of Somerset and Elizabeth Hayes of PA, his son Steven Bailey and his wife Debbie of North Brunswick; his grandchildren Jeana, Michelle, Frank Jr, Alyson, Kelly and Amanda and his great grandchildren Jameson, Stella and Bennett; his siblings Carol O'Brien of Monroe, Kathy Kowalski of Maryland and Joseph Bailey of Milltown.
