Elmer R. Smith, 90, died Wednesday at a local hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the New Hope Funeral Home chapel in New Hope with J. B. Whitaker and Dr. Jack Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be in Hayden Cemetery in New Hope.
Mr. Smith worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority on dam projects as a concrete foreman, primarily at Guntersville Dam, retiring in 1972 as assistant superintendent Pickwick Dam. He was a member of the New Hope, Savannah, Tennessee and Mayfair Churches of Christ serving as a preacher, a teacher and an elder. He was on the first board of directors of the Madison Academy and was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Lucile Troupe Smith.
Survivors include three daughters, Garnetta Bailess and Mary Alice Wilhelm, both of Huntsville; and Myrmia J. Donnell of Madison, TN; two sisters, Nannie Bea Craig and Ernestine Whitaker, both of Owens Cross Roads; one brother, Newton Smith of Owens Cross Roads; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
