In addition to his work life, he was very involved in his community. He was a long-time member of the Excel United Methodist Church where he was the Song Leader. He served on several Boards for organizations including the Peoples Exchange Bank, American Legion, the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, Southern Pine Electric Cooperative, and the Restoration Committee for the historical Mt. Pleasant Church in Eliska. Bill enjoyed playing golf and fishing on a regular occasion until his illness began late in 2021. He also spent many mornings with friends at AJ's Café catching up on local news. His family, however, was his number one priority.
