Hazel Durango Monk was born on March 9, 1908, at Durango, Colorado, and died at Lakeside, Wash., at 6:30 am February 20, 1927, at the age of 18 years, 11 months and 13 days. She came with her parents from Idaho and settled in the Methow Valley in 1920 and there passed through school successfully and won the love of schoolmates and teachers. She was a girl who was always obedient and kind at home, and her life was spent in doing the things that were good and casting ray of sunshine about all who knew her.
On April 10, 1926, she was united in marriage with Harry T. LaMotte, a resident of the Methow Valley. To them one son was born, named Albert, and seven days old at his mother's death.
She will always be remembered for her kindness and love for others, and her consideration of all around her. She leaves besides her father and mother and husband, five brothers, Clifford Whillack of Twisp, and Charley, Albert, Harry and Jesse Monk of Snohomish, and two sisters, Melinda and Marjorie Monk, of Snohomish. Her mother an one brother were with her at the time of her death.
The following friends and relatives from the Methow Valley were in attendance at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Hector LaMotte, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Whitelock, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Enslow, Mrs. Noah Lemaster and daughter, Elma, and Ermah Smith and Mr. H. A. Mykrantz.
