Long-time Mankato resident, Christopher Faye, age 95, passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday, January 26th. Services will be held at Mt. Olive Church, Mankato on Saturday, February 5th. Visitation begins at 9:30 am followed by the service at 11:00am. Christopher Faye was born on November 28, 1926 in Champagne-Urbana, Illinois to The Rev. Professor Christopher Urdahl Faye and Alice (Jenson) Faye. His father, born in Zululand, South Africa was a missionary, linguist, and author. Chris's mother graduated from St. Olaf, and in the 1920s became the first woman to graduate from the University of Minnesota School of Business. Being raised to value a strong education, Christopher was a graduate of Bethany Lutheran College and The University of Illinois, having majored in engineering and business. He began his business career in 1948 with Midwest Service Company, a family-owned business. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the US Army, classified as Scientific and Professional personnel. Upon resigning his commission as a lieutenant, he resumed his place with Martin Oils, Inc. He started his own business, Martin Investments, Inc., and added Martin Financial & Realty, Inc. where he was Chairman of The Board. He enjoyed teaching various subjects at the Mankato Commercial College and helped promising students get started in their own businesses. He also acquired Valley View Cable Co. Chris served on the Board of Trustees at Bethany Lutheran College, the board of Mankato Lutheran Home (now Pathstone), The Board of Directors for Hubbard Milling Company, Amdevc, and Vice Chairman of the American Bank Corporation. On October 19, 1952, Chris was united in marriage to his sweetheart Ruth Molnau. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage in their Christ-centered union. The happy couple's choice of a wedding hymn was "Oh God Our Help In Ages Past, Our Hope For Years To Come." Those who knew Chris realized his success was always attributed to his faith in God and in service to humanity. Following in his father's footsteps, Chris became the author of several articles in prestigious national magazines. For many years Chris wrote a weekly satirical column on the editorial page of The Mankato Free Press. Chris was dedicated to a healthy and active lifestyle. He became The Minnesota Table Tennis Champion and was nationally ranked in the USTTA. Ready to take on a challenge, even at 82 years young, Chris played table tennis and defeated college students. Interestingly, Mr. Faye was a member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians, receiving the highest order of Merlin Excalibur. He entertained in many states with his magic shows. He was also a member of The American Legion and The US Boomerang Association. Upon moving to Mankato in 1948, Christopher joined Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He served as Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, Board of Deacons, and President. In 1975, Chris and Ruth welcomed Ruth's aged parents to live together in their Skyline home. A year later, Chris's widowed mother joined the family where they spent ten wonderful years together. All three parents lived well into their 90's with only short hospital stays until they reached their Heavenly Home. .The family wishes to thank most special and helpful friend-daughter, Rebecca Olson; devoted and loving caretaker, Faith Bergevin; most special and helpful friends, Richard Confer, Pamela Leinberger, Rosemary Brosch, Kathy Kluge, Leroy and Lori Vetsch, Sister Joyce from VINE, Paul Drummer (called "Superman" by Chris), and the wonderful Skyline neighbors and friends
