Vernon Claude Sims passed away on August 20, 2022 in Justin, TX after a long illness. He was born in Exeter, California to Farest C. and Delma June (Austin) Sims on July 7, 1948. He graduated from Crozier Tech High School in Dallas, TX in 1966. Vernon lived in Canada as a young adult. Vernon married Karen Casper in 1972. He lived many years in Austin, TX. Upon his retirement from the State of Texas Workforce Commission, he moved to Dallas.

Vernon considered himself a Renaissance man. He loved exploring the many different aspects of life. He was a man of many talents with a broad variety of interests. He was a true artist who enjoyed painting, sketching, crocheting, quilting and other fiber arts, sometimes dyeing fabrics for his creations. He gave many of his creations to family and friends. He often drew sketches of his caregivers. He sang opera and danced ballet in his young adult years. He was constantly learning and exploring different religions. He loved reading, writing and learning various languages. He and Karen wrote letters to each other in Italian during their short marriage. He loved going to art museums, ballets, operas and symphonies.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law William and Paula Sims and sister Maggie Parker. He is survived by his brothers James (and Cathy) Sims of Fort Worth, Richard (and Janie) Sims of Dallas, Thomas (and Teresa) Sims of Red Rock, TX, Danny (and Brenda) Sims of Wynnewood, OK, sister, Vera Mowery of Dallas, brother-in-law Nathan Parker, several aunts and uncles, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will remember Vernon in a private gathering on Saturday, September 17th.
