Dea was born to Edward John Conrath (1911 - 1971) and Otilla (AKA Odie) A. Kröepfl Conrath (1917 - 2010). In 1967, Otilla wed a man named Robert Alfred Bernhardt (1921 - 1996).

Dea said that her father was a very religious man. He had selected her name as a tribute to Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mr. Conrath was a manager with The John F. Ivory Moving Company, in Detroit, Michigan.

Dea has a brother who lives in New Berlin, Wisconsin.

I met Dea in the 1970's when we both worked for Bankers Trust Company in New York City.

She was cheerful and loved to share happiness with people. When vexed, or hurt, her anger was totally palpable. She radiated her emotions. She had some unusual habits. She was blessed with a beautiful face. While talking with me, she would bite her lip. Watching her white teeth move across her lip made my insides quiver. She also had a great fear of escalators. She was fine going up but was afraid of a misstep on the way down. She could tie-up the folks trying to ride down as she tested each step until she found the perfect one. I never knew if that was vision related, or some deep-seated childhood fear.

She was an excellent dancer. It was a great pleasure to get to dance with her at our office Christmas parties.

Life moved on and the decades fanned-by as fast as flipping thru a book. Dreams that were once kept beside my pillow faded into the realities of life. I found out that Dea passed only a few years ago. Unfortunately, I have no idea what she died from, or where she is interred. If any members of her family know these details, I would appreciate hearing from them. Additionally, a photograph of Dea at a later age would be greatly welcomed.
