Paul Martin
August 15, 1930 - September 8, 2017
Paul Martin was born Aug. 15th 1930 in Tehama County to Henry and Mary Martin. He died Sept 8, 2017 in his home in Corning, CA. He led an industrious life within a few miles of his childhood home. He graduated from Corning High School in 1949 and married Beverly Hammond the following year.
He with his family and friends built the house that he lived in his entire life. Within a couple of years he built a dairy, including a large hay barn. To help support his new family he worked for a roofing company which went out of business and paid his wages by giving him roofing paper and tar, which he used to build a swimming pool. He also worked for an olive plant in Corning a few years.
In 1959 he sold the dairy cows and planted peaches and farmed beans between the young trees. He eventually replaced the peaches with walnuts and bought more land on which he planted prunes and more walnuts.
Paul was an excellent mechanic and inventor: he built mechanical peach harvesters, several farm implements, and greatly expanded his father's walnut dryer. He was also an excellent carpenter and built a sturdy cabin in Mineral.
Paul enjoyed hard work, making toys for the grandchildren and sharing fruits and vegetables with many neighbors.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Beverly and brothers Charles and Rob. He is survived by two brothers and a sister. Two sons and a daughter. Seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and his loving friend Bonnie.
