Juan Young Padilla, 92, a longtime Grant County resident, died Thursday in Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 29, 1897, in Ascencion, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Elisteo and Victoria Young Padilla. Mr. Padilla worked in the crusher for 25 years before his retirement from Chino Mines and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-9 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels where the rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10 in the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Bill Mayer officiating. Interment will be in the Silver City Catholic Cemetery. Survivors are his ex-wife, Antonia Wright of Silver City; four sons, Salvador Padilla and his wife, Cleo, Claudio Padilla and his wife, Mary Lou, and Gilbert Padilla and his wife, Irene, all of Silver City, and Juan Padilla, Jr. and his wife, Mariana, of Pico Rivera, Calif.; a sister, Ramona Verdugo of Anaheim, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Padilla, his wife, Aurelia, in 1975, and four grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Sammy, Toby, Manuel, David and Victor Padilla and Mike Rascon. Honorary bearers will be the remaining grandchildren and his friends. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.
