Diplomat. After graduating from Radcliffe College in 1944 with a B.A. and Middlebury College with a M.A. in 1952 she enlisted in the United States Navy where she served from 1944 until 1946. After leaving the Navy she taught at several schools, including English in Cameroon and Mali Africa. She joined the Foreign Service in 1964 and held several offices with them before becoming the 8th United States Ambassador to the Republic of Togo on September 23, 1978 where she served until July 29, 1981. She passed away at her home at the age of 100.
