Died, Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the family residence, corner of Edwards street and McCreery avenue, Mrs. Kittie Hodge, aged 39 years, and her son, Benjamin Hodge, aged 17 years. The double bereavement comes with appalling effect upon the remainder of the family. Benjamin Hodge died at 4:30 yesterday morning and his mother passed to her reward at 12:30 p.m. The cause of her death was quick consumption. In spite of the fact that she was but 39 years of age, she was the mother of eleven children, the oldest of whom is 24 years. She was married when but 14 years old.

Her children were as follows: Mrs. Lillie V. Skagg, aged 24, of Kentucky; William P., aged 22; Thomas S., aged 20; Mrs. Clara E. Muir, aged 19; Benjamin, aged 17; Robert S., aged 14; James E., aged 12; Thaddeaus, aged 10; Dora, aged 8; Oscar, aged 6; Herman, aged 4. Mrs. Clara E. Muir was married Tuesday. The sympathy of many friends is extended in behalf of the bereaved family. The funeral will occur Friday.

It is not often that two in one family die in one day, but such was the case at the home of Mrs. Kittie Hodge, just east of East Grand avenue on Jackson street, yesterday. At 2:30 o'clock yesterday morning, Benjamin Hodge, the 17-year-old son, was called to the great unknown, and at 12:30 p.m. his mother, Mrs. Kittie Hodge, aged 39 years, went to join him.

Mrs. Hodge has been ill for the past ten months, first with pneumonia, and later with quick consumption. Her son has been ill but a short time. Mrs. Hodge leaves ten children to mourn her loss. Among these is a daughter, Clara E., who was united in marriage last Tuesday evening to Albert Muir, a young contractor. This was by the request of her mother, who knew that she had but a short time to live and so wished to see the young folks united before her departure from this world.

The double funeral will occur today from the family residence. The interment will be in Oak Ridge cemetery. To make the sadness of the death of mother and son still more sad is the fact that Mrs. Hodge and her husband, William Hodge, have been separated for the past few years and that six young children are thrown on the world without father or mother to support them.
