Kathryn Bane Newton, 95, passed away on September 24, 2017 in Chester, NJ. The daughter of Harriet Bane and Joseph W. Bane, Sr., she was born in Niagara Falls, NY.
She graduated from high school in Niagara Falls, and worked at the Carborundum Company until her marriage in 1946 to William S. Newton, Sr., of Youngstown, NY. Kate was an active member and troop leader of the Girl Scouts, and was active in the Red Cross, the Youngstown Civic Guild, the Niagara Falls Women's Bowling Association, the volunteers at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, the Youngstown Public Library, and the Youngstown Presbyterian Church.
She was an avid bowler, and in her 60s, became an enthusiastic golfer. She loved to travel, and in addition to exploring nearly all of the United States with her husband and children, visited Canada, Europe, Australia, Panama, and Africa.
Kate is survived by her brother, Paul Bane; children, Kelley Newton (Tom Tigh), Marilyn Newton (Johnnie Morales), and William S. Newton, Jr. (Karen Collins); grandchildren Alden (Tigh) Cornwell (Staff Sgt. Brian Cornwell), Parrish Newton-Tigh, Ian Tigh, and Grace Elizabeth Newton; great-grandchildren, Milo Ulysses Cornwell and Judah Danger Cornwell; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William S. Newton, Sr.; daughter, Deborah Ann; and siblings, Joseph Bane, Frederick Bane, Raymond Bane, Margaret Latimer, Jane Bane and Mary Aubel.
A memorial service will be held in Youngstown, NY at a later date.
