Diplomat. He was the son of Maurice and Ethel Blinken. He has 2 brothers Alan and Robert. Alan was also a diplomat and served as the Ambassador to Belgium (1993-1997). Donald served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in 1944 and attended Harvard after serving where he graduated magna cum laude in Economics in 1948. He served as the United States Ambassador to Hungary from April 1, 1994 until November 20, 1997. In 2015 the Open Society Archives in Hungary was renamed the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives after receiving a major donation from the couple. He passed away at the age of 96.
