Funeral Rites Are Held For Colonel Cox, Pioneer Jared R. Cox, son of L.D. and Mary Cox, was born May 22, 1849, in Illinois, and died at his home in Carnegie April 25, 1934.
He was married to Eliza E. Garret in 1879. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. J.R. Cox; one daughter, Mrs. J.D. Goble of Oklahoma City; seven great grandchildren; one
sister, Mrs. Alice Hoffman of Murray, Iowa; and one brother, Theo. Cox of McLouth, Kans.
Mr. and Mrs. Cox joined and were baptized into the Predestinarian Baptist church in 1922 at Topeka, Kans.
Funeral services were conducted at the Pitcher funeral home by Rev. Hughes of the Primitive Baptist church of Granite. Interment was made in the Carnegie cemetery.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Cox of McLouth, Kans., and their son, Albert of Wichita, Kans.; J. Frank and Dow Cox, nephews, and Mrs. S.M. Wible, a niece, of Wichita; and J.S. Zinn, Topeka, Kans., and W.I. Zinn, Grantville, Kans., brothers of Mrs. Cox.

Col. J.R. Cox Dies At 85; Was Pioneer Col. J.R. Cox, who pioneered here before the town of Carnegie was started, died at his home in the west part of the city at 10 o'clock Wednesday night after an illness to ten
days. He was 85 years old.
Mr. Cox came to Oklahoma from Illinois in 1902 and bought a farm near Alden. He bought lumber with which to build his home at the Rock Island tracks from R.A. McDermot who was agent for the Stephenson-Browne Lumber Company. He moved to Carnegie in 1908 and has made his home here since.
For years Col. Cox was the leading auctioneer in this part of the state and cried farm and merchandise sales in the three counties.
